Is It Worth It Getting an Amazon Prime Membership?

Anyone can create an account with Amazon India and start shopping. However, Amazon also has a premium account called Amazon Prime. Here are all the reasons why getting an Amazon Prime membership is a good idea. 

What is Amazon Prime?

Amazon Prime is Amazon’s premium membership, and unlike the regular membership, you need to pay a fee to be a Prime member. 

What is the Prime Membership Subscription in India?

There are 3 different plans that you can subscribe to as a Prime Member:

  • The monthly plan, where you pay Rs. 179 every month. However, to subscribe for this plan, you have to pay by either credit or debit cards of banks that have met the RBI’s latest guidelines. 
  • The quarterly plan, where you pay Rs. 459 every three months. You can pay using any one of the available payment methods. 
  • The annual plan, where you pay Rs. 1,499 every year (12 months). Here too, you can pay using any one of the available electronic payment methods (select bank credit or debit cards, electronic banking and UPI Apps)

Amazon also offers a free 30-day trial of the Prime subscription but this offer is only available for select debit and credit cards. You will have to pay Rs. 2 when you subscribe for the free trial, but you will be refunded once the trial period ends. If you do not cancel the free trial at the end of 30 days, then you will automatically be charged for a full year’s subscription (Rs. 1,499) to your card. 

There is also a Prime Youth Offer, where you are allowed to get a Prime subscription at 50% off (as Amazon Pay Cashback). However, you need to submit a selfie and one document proving your age, which needs to be between 18 and 24 years. And this offer is only available on Amazon’s mobile app. 

What Makes Amazon Prime So Special?

Being a Prime Member has a large number of benefits which makes it worth it:

  • Delivery Benefits

As a Prime customer, you get the benefit of one- and two-day deliveries to more than 100 cities across India on over 40 million eligible products. For the one-day delivery option, you can actually end up saving Rs. 150 per item you order. And you save Rs. 120 per item on the 2-day delivery option. 

Furthermore, if a product has a Prime badge on it, then you are eligible for free delivery anywhere in India. For items below Rs. 499, you get to save Rs. 40. 

  • Unlimited Access to Prime Video

As a Prime member, you get access to Prime Video, where you get to watch the latest TV shows and movies in a wide range of Indian languages and English. 

  • Unlimited Access to Prime Music

Prime members also get access to Prime Music, which has more than 75 million ad-free songs in English, Hindi, Punjabi, Tamil, Telegu, Bengali and many other languages. You can also download music so you can listen to this music offline anywhere you go. 

  • Gaming with Prime

You also get access to free in-game content on the top mobile games. These offers are refreshed regularly, so you have lots of new deals to look forward to. 

To access this free content, simply download the games listed on the Amazon website. Next, click on the Login with Amazon option in the game, and then sign into your Prime account. Once you give the game permissions to access your details, you can then avail of all of the in-game freebies that Amazon has on offer. 

  • Reading with Prime

You get access to hundreds of e-books, comics, fiction and non-fiction novels in both English as well as multiple Indian languages in Prime Reading. 

  • Unlimited 5% Rewards

Prime members can apply for the Amazon Pay ICICI Bank credit card. When you use this credit card to make your purchases on Prime, you get unlimited 5% reward points, where 1 point is equal to a rupee. 

  • Exclusive and Early Deals and Offers

As a Prime member, you will get access to exclusive deals on Amazon. You get special coupons that offer discounts on a wide range of top brands and product categories. And of course, the Prime Day Sale is the mega attraction of being a Prime member. This is a two-day mega sale exclusively for Prime subscribers, where shoppers get some of the best deals that Amazon has to offer. 

Besides the famous Prime Day sale, members of this premium subscription get early access to all sales that take place on Amazon.
